Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial

A couple of days ago, I visited the new Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in Washington D.C., situated in a beautiful spot next to the Tidal Basin across from the Jefferson Memorial and within sight of the Lincoln Memorial. I stood there in front of the 28-foot, 6-inch tall granite “Stone of Hope” from which the sculpture of Dr. King emerges and the single word came to mind: magnificent. While Washington is a city of monuments, I think this is the most impressive memorial since the Viet Nam Veterans Memorial Wall was dedicated in 1982.
