With her baby Aimidiwe, on her back, rape victim Mongera Sbasinganire, 28, plants corn on Masika’s farm. Masika Katsuva survived a brutal gang rape in 1999 but did not give in to despair. Today, she runs a combination half-way house and vegetable farm just outside Goma. It is a sanctuary for violated women that allows them to gather strength and self-respect through medical attention, faith, work and, most importantly, the company of others who share their horrific experiences.
